So that's what this is. This is a blog about the Australian left, what it is doing and saying around the country.
So what do I mean by 'left' and how is it distinguished from other political tendencies? Since the time of the Great French Revolution, all the way through to today, protestations of liberals and 'political compas' types notwithstanding, the 'left' have been in favour of establishing, defending, and extending legal, economic, political, and social equality. The 'right' have been in favour of establishing, defending, and extending legal, economic, political, and social inequality and stratification.
So it should be clear that I'm not merely talking about left of the current 'center' in Australia's miserable parliamentary politics. Nor am I talking about the political center. Just the left.
So who makes up the left in Australia, according to this blog? Well, that's a rather nuanced question, but these are the types of groups that I will look at in this blog:
Socialist Alliance
Socialist Alternative
Revolutionary socialist Party
International Socialist Organisation
Communist Party of Australia
Spatacist League of Australia
And others that I'm sure to remember/people will tell me.
That's all I've got to say for now, so I'm off to watch some House.
